How school leaders use Partners in Learning

Mrs. Luule Niinesalu
"We are a new school, and have gotten a lot of support and valuable guidance from the leaders of other Partners in Learning innovative schools to help us grow. Among other things, they have helped us make student study processes more effective and improved cooperation between school and home."
Mrs. Luule Niinesalu
Primary School Principal – Estonia
My tips and suggestions
  • Use Partners in Learning to share ideas and best practices with other leaders of innovative schools. This community has given us many good ideas on how to make students into active learners that participate in the study process. This active way of learning has been very successful, and our students’ motivation has risen a lot.
  • Partners in Learning can provide invaluable support when you are introducing new, innovative practices. For example, my global PiL colleagues provided support and insight for my idea of introducing a descriptive grading system. Through them I saw that I was not alone, and that my ideas about innovative schools are not just dreams, but reality.

Huma Islam
"The world and technology is rapidly changing. Collaborating with Microsoft helps us keep our teachers updated with the skills required for 21st century pedagogy, achieve excellence in our teaching methodology as well as in our curriculum, and share our practices with other schools."
Huma Islam
Montessori Directress – Emaar, Pakistan
My tips and suggestions
  • Participate in the Innovative Schools network. You’ll be able to share research and collaborate with the peoples of different cultures and languages. Our school has found great value in developing international links with other schools and uniting behind the common themes of community cohesion.
  • Apply to become a Pathfinder school and take advantage of opportunities to attend conferences and training sessions, such as the Innovative Teachers Forum and Innovative Schools Forum. These events are highly informative and present many ways to help students make effective use of ICT skills in their studies.
  • Use the Microsoft Innovative Teacher Toolkit to help teachers turn challenging environments into fun learning environments. Just introducing technology in the classroom isn’t enough; your teachers need to be able to engage students positively with technology in order to be successful.

Clayton Carnes
"Thanks to Partners in Learning, we are a now a school of the world that just happens to be located in Australia. We can share ideas with anyone, anywhere - and I have access to the world’s top education experts to help me lead innovation and change."
Clayton Carnes
School Principal – Australia
My tips and suggestions
  • Take advantage of access to master educators to improve your leadership. My relationship with Microsoft has enabled me to meet and work with some of the world’s leading educators – people who you’d normally only read about. It’s changed my leadership style, helped me better understand my students, and enabled me to deal more empathetically with my community.

Shimutina & Chinareva
"Partners in Learning helped us expand and improve one of our most successful long-term projects with a new focus on the international job market. A unique digital environment, collaboration, and cooperation inspired all our teachers to work more effectively and creatively."
Elena Shimutina & Olga Chinareva
Vice Principal (ICT) & Vice Principal (Foreign Languages) – Moscow, Russia
My tips and suggestions
  • We recommend including brainstorming, international surveys, etc., in your plan of work for Partners in Learning for Schools program. This will help you expand the teaching and learning process beyond the classroom and better use the possibilities provided by Partners in Learning.
  • Use Partners in Learning to access the most modern Microsoft tools. In our case, both teachers and students started to work with OneNote School Notebook for information gathering and multi-user collaboration. They also helped us create our unique digital educational environment. All these helped to enhance pupils’ performance and motivation.
  • Take advantage of professional development opportunities through Partners in Learning. Participate in interactive meetings and lectures with internationally-renowned educational experts, such as Michael Fullan and Dan Buckley. It is a rare opportunity to receive innovative ideas and share international practices for free.
