In January 2012, my students founded their own organization called Gators H.E.L.P. dedicated to help improve the lives of children around the world. My students wanted to raise awareness about poverty and hunger in other nations, so I developed the attached unit of study to provide them with an opportunity to achieve this goal. This unit was also designed to provide my students with an opportunity to develop their skills with Microsoft Publisher, Power Point, Windows Movie Maker, Kinect Avatars, Word Q, Word, and Kinect pc control so that they would have the essential transferable technological skills they would need to be competitive in all their future academic and employment endeavours. The students worked in collaborative teams where they developed their own visions of what they wanted their news reports to look like and they supported one another by sharing their technological knowledge and mentoring their peers.
