Microsoft’s Live Services for Moodle simplifies course management and offers schools a better way to collaborate in the virtual learning environment. It brings email, search, calendar, alerts and messaging to teachers and students using Moodle, allowing them to sign in with their Windows Live ID. With this plug-in, teachers and students can now work together to search the web for subject material, chat with classmates, broadcast classroom notifications, and access course files—without having to leave Moodle.

Live Services for Moodle integrates into the Moodle framework and gives your classroom quick access to Windows Live Mail, Calendar, Messenger, Alerts, and Bing search. Once installed by your Moodle site administrator, your Moodle front page will have a list of available Live Services features in the right sidebar. Following a sign in with your Windows Live ID, you can start virtually collaborating with your classroom like never before.

Microsoft’s Live Services Plug-in for Moodle lets you:

  • Access Windows Live Mail, Calendar, Messenger, Alerts, and Bing search without leaving Moodle
  • Collaborate with teachers and classmates seamlessly
  • Increase course management productivity while using Moodle


System requirements:

  • Moodle 1.9.x
  • Limitations: The plug-in has not been thoroughly tested with Moodle 1.8.x or earlier. Also the plug-in has not been integrated or tested with Moodle 2.0 dev builds. Current version 1.10 released on 11/18/2010.

The Live Services Plug-in for Moodle was developed by Microsoft Education Labs. The Education Labs site is no longer live, but all of the prototype products formerly hosted there are now available through the Partners in Learning Network.
