Office Add-in for Moodle

Uploading files to Moodle—and making changes on the fly—has never been easier. The Office Add-in for Moodle is a time-saving, hassle-free way for teachers to open and save Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents to a Moodle web site—all from within Microsoft Office. Teachers can now manage their courses without having to flip back and forth between Office and a web browser—making their work faster, easier and more productive.

Moodle is a open source Course Management System (CMS) that educators use to create online learning sites and share lessons with students. The Office Add-in for Moodle gives you a better way to manage the Office documents that you include on your Moodle site. After you install the Office Add-In for Moodle, you are able to open Office documents from Moodle and save them back, using Office's file tab. Browse course files on your Moodle site by storing the address and the credentials you use to log in.

Anyone who is the teacher or owner of a Moodle course can install this Add-in and access their documents.  Once installed, the add-in adds two new menu items ("Open from Moodle" and "Save to Moodle" under:

  •  The File menu in  Office 2003
  •  The Office Button in Office 2007
  •  The File tab in Office 2010

To browse course files on your Moodle, you will need to tell the Add-in the address of your Moodle and the credentials you use to log in.  Once added, you can view the list of courses you are enrolled in.  Students and others can access the content directly from Moodle as they normally would.

System requirements:

  • Moodle version 1.8 or 1.9 
  • Microsoft Windows XP SP2 or higher
  • NET Framework 2.0 or higher
  • Office 2003, 2007, or 2010
Limitations:
  • Requires the My Courses module to be visible on course home pages and for it to be showing courses.
  • Does not work with Live Services Plug-in for Moodle.
  • Has not been tested with Moodle 2.0 or higher.

The Office Add-in for Moodle was developed by Microsoft Education Labs and The Education Labs team has moved on to other adventures.  All of the products developed by The Education Lab team are prototypes, are to be used “as-is” , and there are no current plans for updating the Office Add-in for Moodle to make it compatible with Moodle versions later than 2.0 at this time.    Products formerly hosted there are now available through the Partners in Learning NetworkThe Education Labs Terms of Use and Privacy Policy still apply to this product.
