This lesson addresses Common Core Standards for Math and Language Arts in addition to NASPE Health and Fitness standards. In Math, students will learn to understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities.
In Language Arts students will write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence while integrating quantitative or technical information expressed in words in a text with a version of that information expressed visually (e.g., in a flowchart, diagram, model, graph, or table). In addition, they will compare and contrast the information gained from experiments, simulations, video, or multimedia sources with that gained from reading a text on the same topic.
Students will also write arguments focused on discipline-specific content and support their claim(s) with logical reasoning and relevant, accurate data and evidence that demonstrate an understanding of the topic or text, using credible sources.
All of the necessary instructions, charts and information required to conduct this activity in the classroom are included in the supporting resources below.
