This project helps students to understand more about narrative literature and to apply this genre in real life through writing scripts and making movies with topics of free choice. This will imporve many of the students’ important skills. Additionally, students can also accumulate more understanding of social life and conduct many charitable activities with a high sense of community.
Our project has been through 2 phases within 8 weeks. In phase 1, students studied the theories of narrative literature genre, then began selecting groups, registering topics, writing scripts, editing, filming and voicing for the product to shape. Entering the second phase, 5 best groups completed and enhanced their products with the addition of film subtitles, trailers and posters.
ICT technologies used in the project: we used online classes with engrade.com and students make plan by Online Mind Maps with Spiderscribe.net, they used school forum to exchange ideas and communicate, they wrote the script with Microsoft Office then after went out to the real world with camera they used Windows movie maker, power director, Aegisub, ProShow gold ... to make movies, upload movies to YouTube, then share their products via Facebook.
In overall assessment, we found that the project is successful to achieve five of the following:
First, to arouse the dynamism and creativity of the students through excellent film products.
Secondly, to create humanistic products with a high sense of community. Through these films, the students have conveyed to the audience messages of love, the shares of life and compassion. At the same time, students also expressed their love for the country, their homeland and the pride of national culture.
Thirdly, after-project activities were expaneded, bearing numerous practical meanings. Teachers were to share the experiences gained from the project with colleauges, and students organized their charitable programs to support poor patients and orphans, such as the “Mường Chiềng, a call from the heart” program
Fourthly, the project had gained attention, assistance and support from individuals, organizations both from within and outside the school.
Lastly, the project is a successful combination between the two subjects Literature and ICT, via technological appliances such as film-making softwares, websites and social networks like Facebook.
