Learning activity details

I use PowerPoint as an online teaching and learning tool. Presentations are uploaded and shared globally online. I created an online professional network ‘Music Matters’ that was designed to be a supportive environment for music educators, particularly in supporting music technology. I then extended the project to include students in real time online music making. The idea of making music together without distance being a barrier is very powerful. Students and teachers are now realising the opportunities that online collaborations can give.
In an attempt to open the classroom, de-privatise the business of music teaching and provide an authentic context for learners, readily available tools and functions were used in innovative ways. PowerPoint has been used as a teaching tool for many years, but used as a teaching and learning tool online, the world opens up considerably. Music Matters focuses on achievement and promotes enquiry and reflection. Through Music Matters we sustain our school, community and global partnerships.
Having a network around the world to connect with and experts around the world to learn from challenges both teacher and learners to try new ideas. This is a relevant, authentic and transformative teaching and learning practice that brings the world to us and takes us to the world.
