Learning activity details

This lessons meets Common Core Standards in Math and Language Arts, in addition to NASPE Health and Fitness Standards. Students will learn the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities. In addition they will learn ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems; for example, by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations. Students will also learn to fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm for each operation.

In Language Arts students will write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence while ntegrating quantitative or technical information expressed in words in a text with a version of that information expressed visually (e.g., in a flowchart, diagram, model, graph, or table). They will also compare and contrast the information gained from experiments, simulations, video, or multimedia sources with that gained from reading a text on the same topic. Students will write arguments focused on discipline-specific content and support their claim(s) with logical reasoning and relevant, accurate data and evidence that demonstrate an understanding of the topic or text, using credible sources.

All of the information, charts and instructions needed for conducting this learning activity are included in the supporting resources below.
